Nut Plates

my front jeep bumper has unthreaded holes in it for a license plate bracket but i can't get a nut on the back

so i bought a cheapo bracket and it has screws that don't hold the bracket against the bumper. wtf? how do i get it to stay?

Drill some holes or use duct tape.

1981 20hp Mercury outboard, how do you get the plate above the prop off to get at the 3rd. nut?

I have the nut above the prop off and the one at the top but can't figure out how to get the plate off to remove the front nut above the prop. Prop is off already and I'm trying to remove the bottom housing to see what broke inside. Prop turns freely in gear with a griding noise and no power is supplied to the prop with engine running. Thanks for any help??

You might want to pull the bearing carrier before dropping the lower unit. This way you can inspect the lower unit for the amount of damage before tearing it apart. If the lower unit is badly damaged you might want to bring it to the shop before tearing it apart. I hate when a unit comes into the shop in box. You might also be able to see the damage and get the parts before taking it apart. That way you can take it apart, repair it and put it all back together while its still fresh in your mind.

Mercman is correct on the removal. The final bolt is under the trim tab.
